What the stores and search results already tell us

CRED's listing and website, judged next to SBI Card and CheQ — and the features their unhappy users are asking for out loud.

No score gate — anyone with a card

5M installs and a 2.4 rating: a huge pool of card-payers who are actively unhappy where they are.

Why it mattersCheQ has five million installs and a 2.4 rating. That is the clearest pool of switchable card-payers in the market — people who already pay bills in an app and already dislike the one they use.

Why it mattersAnyone competing for the same user is worth a look. Type an app name and you get its rating, install band, what reviewers complain about and what would make them switch.

Review teardown

What people actually write in the reviews

Rewards feel rigged

Pain index 1.00 — the loudest theme by far

Reviews mentioning rewards, coins or cashback average 2.48 stars, against 4.68 for reviews that name no problem at all. 'Cashback' appears 5,491 times across 150,000 reviews — for a feature that was withdrawn.

reported

Coins that buy nothing

Recurring inside the rewards theme

Members hold lakhs of coins, price a store item with them, then find the same product cheaper on Amazon without spending any.

reported

Support you cannot reach

Pain index 0.56

Payment routed wrong, no phone line, resolution pushed back to the bank. Trustpilot sits at 2.4 while the store sits at 4.8 — angry users go where they can be heard.

reported

Why it mattersCRED's 4.8 hides two apps: paying a bill scores 4.68, anything touching rewards scores 2.48. Every rival's weakness is a promise CRED could make instead.

Why it mattersThe site looks healthy because the brand is strong. Strip out the brand and the customer-care queries and there is one real asset — page-one visibility on credit-score intent — and almost nothing else.

Feature bets, straight from rivals' complaints

Build these and their users have a reason to leave

Own base + CheQ refugees

Medium effort

Say what a coin is worth, in rupees, before it is earned

WhyBoth apps are bleeding on the same wound: a reward currency that quietly devalues. CRED's rewards reviews average 2.48; CheQ fell to 2.4 the moment chips stopped clearing bills.

BuildA fixed, published rupee value per coin and a 'never devalued' promise with a public changelog. The promise is the feature; the coin is just the unit.

Defends 11M actives, and is the single clearest reason for a CheQ user to switch

Lapsed CRED members

Medium effort

Beat Amazon or refund the difference

WhyThe most shared complaint is opening the store, applying coins, and finding the thing cheaper elsewhere without them.

BuildPrice-match the top 200 store SKUs against a public marketplace, shown on the product card before checkout.

Attacks the top-weighted complaint in 150k reviews

SBI Card users + own detractors

High effort

A human in ten minutes, in the app

WhySupport is CRED's second pain index at 0.56, and SBI Card's worst reviews are fraud victims told to send an email.

BuildCallback-in-ten-minutes for money-stuck cases, a visible case timer, and a dispute tracker that follows the bank on the user's behalf.

The one thing a bank app structurally cannot promise

SBI Card users

Medium effort

'I'm paying on the 26th' — tell the bank for me

WhyCollections chasing users who already committed to a date is a repeated theme in SBI Card's low ratings.

BuildA dated payment commitment inside CRED that schedules the debit, silences reminders and generates proof of intent.

Turns CRED into the layer users want between them and the issuer

CheQ users

Low effort

Autopay and a balance that is actually current

WhyNo autopay and stale outstanding balances are the two most repeated functional gripes about CheQ.

BuildMulti-card autopay with a pre-debit nudge, and a freshness timestamp on every balance shown.

Table stakes that a 5M-install rival has not shipped

CheQ users

Low effort

Never ask for CVV, and say so on the install screen

WhyCheQ's trust problem is concrete: forums flag CVV collection and hard account deletion.

BuildA 'what we never ask for' panel at onboarding plus one-tap account deletion — then make it store-listing copy and a comparison ad.

Cheapest switch trigger on this list

Why it mattersNothing here is invention. Each bet is the inverse of a complaint SBI Card or CheQ users are already publishing.

  1. Stop burying the gate

App listingLow effort · 1 week

The 750+ requirement appears deep in the listing. Surfacing it first raises install-to-member conversion and cuts the rejected-at-signup cohort that leaves 1-star reviews.

  2. Answer the rewards reviews in public

App listingLow effort · 1 week

CheQ replies to its angriest reviewers; CRED largely does not. Developer responses on the rewards theme are read by every prospective installer.

  3. Prompt for a rating after a successful bill payment, never after a reward reveal

App listingLow effort · 1 week

Payment is the 4.68-star moment; rewards are the 2.48-star one. Timing alone moves the public average.

    WebsiteMedium effort · 4 weeks

246,000 searches a month, already ranking, and the exact intent of someone who may clear the 750 gate. Biggest single non-brand prize on the site.

  2. Run screenshots against the switcher, not the newcomer

App listingMedium effort · 3 weeks

Three of the first five screens should answer 'why leave SBI Card or CheQ' — one bill view for all cards, fixed coin value, human support.

  3. Fix the customer-care flood at source

    WebsiteMedium effort · 3 weeks

17% of organic traffic is people looking for a phone number. Make in-app support findable and this becomes a deflected cost rather than a traffic statistic.

  1. Build out the rival-card article hub

    WebsiteMedium effort · 6 weeks

CRED already ranks 5th for 'sbi elite credit card'. A full set of card pages puts CRED in front of other issuers' customers at decision time.

    Who does it
    Content team
    How we know it worked
Non-brand card keywords in the top 10
  2. Decide about paid search deliberately

    WebsiteLow effort · 1 week

Zero keywords bought. Competitors are unchallenged on high-intent card terms — either that is a conscious brand stance or an open flank.

    Who does it
    Growth marketing
    How we know it worked
A written decision, and a test budget if yes

Why it mattersFive of these nine are a week's work each. Mark items as you ship them — the tracker at the top is shared, so everyone opening this screen sees the same state.

Method

Where these numbers come from

  • Store ratings, review counts and download bands are read from the public Google Play and App Store listings in September 2026. They move daily.
  • Review themes are drawn from public reviews, published review analyses and enthusiast forums. The CRED pain-index figures come from an independent scrape of 150,000 Play Store reviews covering Oct 2022 to Feb 2026 — not from CRED's own data.
  • Search figures are Semrush estimates for the India database. Organic traffic is modelled from volume and click-through, not measured visits.
  • No private CRED analytics, store console data or user records were used anywhere on this screen.
